Coulommiers
Coulommiers
Coulommiers cheese is named after 'Coulommiers' commune in the Seine-et-Marne department from France, as this is the place where it was produced for the first time! Coulommiers cheese, smaller but thicker than Brie, is made from cow's milk. It has a bloomy edible rind.
In the Middle Ages, the local products became known thanks to the fairs of Champagne and Brie. The lords of the area even ordered them to be eaten at their tables. However, the large Brie cheeses often seemed fragile during transport. This is why a smaller cheese was developed and named "coulommiers", also called "brie petit moule".
Coulommiers tastes the best when served with apples, pears or fresh berries at the end of the meal.
