The emergence of winter signifies the arrival of the decadent Mont d’Or, also called Vacherin du Haut-Doubs. Mont D’Or is a wonderfully, soft, resin scented, and seasonal cheese. La petite histoire: In the 12th century, there was a lack of milk production for Gruyère in the stables where the herds passed in winter. This forced producers to design smaller cheeses to sustain mountain farmers through the winter. In the 18th century, it was served on the table of Louis XV. He appreciated it for the smoothness and creaminess of its paste!
Our Mont d'Or is awarded AOP ("Appellation d’Origine Protégée", which means Protected Designation of Origin). The AOP mark is the highest distinction awarded by the European Union and confirms the excellence of a product, its artisanship and unimpeachable quality.
